Introducing: Honey!

In partnership with KitchenAid Canada, I’ll be highlighting this year’s Colour of the Year and how it brings warmth and sweetness to my kitchen.

Colour is one of the most important aspects of the design of any room as it helps you create and achieve a mood.

It’s that time of the year when KitchenAid announces their Colour of the Year and if you’re a design and food nerd like me, you’ve been anxiously waiting to find out. This year's colour, Honey, is inspired by the global insight that humans are craving togetherness and a sense of community more than ever before. Our homes have become our whole world as we’re constantly adjusting to the new “norm” and the one space in my apartment that I’ve been spending a lot of time in lately is the kitchen.

It’s no surprise that I love to cook. Coming from a culinary background, I’m constantly cooking, baking and experimenting with recipes. My kitchen is the heart and soul of my apartment and the gathering place for making memories. It has seen everything from cooking/baking disasters to successfully making firsts of many recipes to celebrating life’s milestones (big or small). But, it’s also the space in my apartment that needs a refresh to match the rest of my decor.

If you’ve been following me on social, you can tell that I’m not shy of adding pops of colours to my space. I love incorporating rich, warm, saturated earth-tones that make your space feel snug and homey. The KitchenAid 2021 Colour of the Year, Honey embodies just that making it the perfect addition to my kitchen! I love how their iconic Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer seamlessly fits into this corner adding just the pop of colour I was looking for! Paired with modern woods and eclectic mixes of rustic and modern touches from the buffet and black marble open shelving in this area, the Honey Stand Mixer transformed this corner into a comforting sanctuary that feels highly textural but also highly chic.

Technical Details:

  • 10 different speeds to thoroughly mix, knead and whip ingredients quickly and easily.

  • The 5-Quart bowl has enough capacity to mix up to 9 dozen cookies in a single batch and is dishwasher safe.

  • You can use the power hub to turn your stand mixer into a culinary center with over 10 optional hub-powered attachments, from food grinders to pasta makers.

Let’s chat more about the colour shall we? Honey is…

  • A warm and rich colour with golden-orange undertones.

  • A colour that radiates positivity and warmth, serving as an invitation for all to unite for the greater good.

  • An invitation to connect and a reminder of the joy that comes from collaboration, especially in the kitchen.

I’m not going to lie, my excitement levels were high after unpacking my first ever stand mixer in the apartment. I’ve been wanting a KitchenAid® Artisan® Tilt-Head Stand Mixer for the longest time but didn’t want to settle for a neutral colour since this will be displayed on my countertop. I’m so glad that I waited until now to get one because this colour is everything I’ve wanted and more.

I began brainstorming ideas on what I want my first bake to be in my new stand mixer! Taking inspiration from this year’s colour, I decided to make a Meyer lemon, rosemary and black olive focaccia drizzled with honey. I have to admit, I’m a better cook than I’m a baker (especially when it comes to bread) so I sourced the focaccia recipe from Clair Safftiz’s cookbook: Dessert Person but got creative with the toppings myself. You can find a direct link to her recipe here

Whether you’re a baker or not, this easy focaccia bread gets a tart bite from the thin slices of Meyer lemon, a salty hit from the black olives and a touch of sweetness from the honey. When it came out of the oven, it’s safe to say this entire pan was devoured by loved ones!
